Isaiah 40:28-31
“Do you not know? Have you not heard? The Lord is the everlasting God, the Creator of the whole earth. He never becomes faint or weary; there is no limit to his understanding. He gives strength to the faint and strengthens the powerless. Youths may become faint and weary, and young men stumble and fall, but those who trust in the Lord will renew their strength; they will soar on wings like eagles; they will run and not become weary, they will walk and not faint.”
-Isaiah 40:28-31 (CSB; She Reads Truth Bible)
This week I have needed the truth from these verses a lot. This is our off week for homeschool, meaning we didn’t have lessons this week. So, of course I made all these plans for deep cleaning the house and getting caught up on laundry and other tasks on my to-do lists. Did those things happen? As you can probably guess, no they did not. I came down with my annual summer cold and have been slogging through the week ever since. My plans of no screens for the week quickly slipped away as I napped and didn’t want to listen to the kids argue. What can I say? Not my finest moment as a mom. When these things happen, I have the tendency to really get inside my head and let the negative self talk and self doubt run rampant. It’s easy for me to not only become physically weary, but to become deeply soul weary. I fall back into the pattern of thinking I’m a failure and will never get caught up on all the things I need to do. I desperately need to be reminded of Isaiah’s words; “The Lord is the everlasting God, the Creator of the whole earth. He never becomes faint or weary; there is no limit to his understanding. He gives strength to the faint and strengthens the powerless.” God understands when we are overwhelmed, when we are physically, spiritually, and emotionally exhausted. He doesn’t judge us or say “well, you should have known better than to make so many plans…” No! He wants us to lean on Him to trust in Him. He wants to renew our spirits and help us find rest for our souls. When we allow those things, then the physical rest can follow. The to-do lists might not get done on our timeline, but if we are faithful and trust in God, He will give us strength to accomplish what we are called to do. What an amazing thing to remember, the Creator of the whole earth wants to give us His strength and lend us His understanding. My prayer for you (and myself) is that you will trust in the Lord and allow Him to renew your strength! Like Isaiah says; “…those who trust in the Lord will renew their strength; they will soar on wings like eagles…”
