Psalm 121
“I lift my eyes towards the mountains. Where will my help come from? My help comes from the Lord, the Maker of heaven and earth. He will not allow your foot to slip; your Protector will not slumber. Indeed, the Protector of Israel does not slumber or sleep. The LORD protects you; the LORD is a shelter right by your side. The sun will not strike you by day or the moon by night. The LORD will protect you from all harm; he will protect your life. The LORD will protect your coming and going both now and forever.”
– Psalm 121 (CSB; She Reads Truth Bible)
Today was one of those days where I desperately needed the reminder to call to mind God’s promises. It was one of those days where nothing seemed to go to plan. The kids and I overslept and didn’t feel well; I’ve been battling regular migraines and other flare ups of my symptoms; and just two weeks into the school year I already see my perfectly planned schedule slipping away. Needless to say, today has not been my day. It’s been a day filled with self doubt and frustration and let me tell you I can negative self-talk like nobody’s business (not something I am proud of…). My personal devotions became listening to the kids Bible lesson and my prayers today consisted of “God, give me strength” or “Please, get me through today!” I definitely did not think I would be getting a devotional out today, which of course added to the self doubt and frustration. But, as the lessons got done and the tasks got checked off the to-do list; I kept thinking of Psalm 121:1-2 “I lift my eyes toward the mountains. Where will my help come from? My help comes from the Lord, the maker of heaven and earth.” As I was bombarded by negative thoughts, self doubt, and exhaustion, I clung to the promise that I am not alone. I have help from the Creator of the Heavens and Earth! How amazing is that!? Yet, I forget about it all the time! I try to do it on my own over and over again. Then I get frustrated by the same disappointing results. So this is my reminder to you and myself to lift our eyes to the mountains. To trust the promises God makes us over and over again that He is with us! Let Him shelter you from life’s storms and daily trials no matter how big or small. Like the Psalmist says, “The LORD protects you; the Lord is a shelter right by your side.”
